North Somerset Cricket League
Welcome to the website for the North Somerset Cricket Conference

Extraordinary General Meeting

The League is calling an EGM on Thursday 7 September to discuss with clubs the future direction of the North Somerset League. The meeting will start at 8.00pm at The Royal British Legion, Staunton Lane, Whitchurch, Bristol, BS14 0QF.

This meeting is mandatory as per Rule 11 a. Clubs may send more than one representative as there will be no voting. It is anticipated that those attending will have been briefed on how to response to the points below as well as raising any other points on the League structure.

Sunday Premier

The number of conceded matches (approx. 25%) and mismatches in team strength when there are only 6 teams in the Division has led to this season’s competition being farcical. New teams are not looking to enter this competition.

Is it time to drop the Premier Conference and revert to one league? Is ten sides per Division the aim or would Divisions of 8 and a shorter season be worth considering?

How do clubs use this League

The League has 29 teams who are part of a club that plays on a Saturday and 11 teams who are a club which solely plays its cricket on a Sunday.

What do clubs want from the league?  An opportunity to play serious league cricket, a place to develop youngsters playing alongside experienced players, a social game (less stressful than Saturdays)?

What can the league do to assist with teams playing enjoyable competitive games?

There are 4 Divisions (3 being linear) in the North Somerset League compared to, for example, 19 linear Divisions on a Saturday in Bristol. The potential for mismatches is huge as the current rules could see a team from the 6th tier play a team from the 15th tier.

How do clubs feel about this and is there anything that can be done aside from player eligibility criteria
